Hummingbird Symbolism – The Meaning of its Sighting

There is indeed something magical and fascinating about the hummingbird that makes it the pick of the bunch in works of art, sculpture, and even illustrations. These tiny, colorful creatures are so jewel-like and captivating in their feats; despite their incredibly small size, they are tough-willed and can even fight off large predators like hawks. The hummingbird story is indeed the stuff of legends and fairytales. And no, an encounter with these whirring creatures is hardly ever a matter of chance.

I have always been in awe of the hummingbird and it has somehow been coming into my life for so long. My first experience was with a young bird whose mother set up a nest by my garage; despite its relatively safe covering away from the rain, cold, and predators, the baby hummingbird had no feathers yet. I should have left the young bird alone as parents typically keep an eye on them, but I just thought it would do with some help. In my quest to help this little one, I took it home and fed it with honey water. It recognized me after a while and would stretch its neck whenever I served its meal.

My experience with the hummingbirds was just more than a fun adventure though. The hummingbird, despite its tiny size, can do things no other bird or animal can do. They can fly backward, forwards, hover up and down, and halt to an instant stop from a full-speed flight; this is in addition to their ability to ward off predators. While they may be really small, hummingbirds come with a vital spiritual message – you can be stronger and more flexible than you imagine.

Perhaps the hummingbird’s appearance in a person’s life signifies that there is an aspect of your life that requires more flexibility. Its appearance may also mean you are doing just fine and have shown lots of flexibility and strength when handling life issues. In any case, a hummingbird sighting is a way for you to connect with your higher self and the Divine – a truly significant and meaningful experience to everyone in a unique way.
